milestone in the new bay bridge construction project. first piece of the signature power put foo place. when completed the center piece of the span bridge will rise 525 feet above the bay. abc 7 joins us now from treasure island. the defining feature of the new bridge will be this tower. a single tower z today, the first piece of that tower was put into place all 2.3 million pounds of it. moving 1200 tons took time. taking three hours to lift the piece into a vertical position. then, the rest of the day to lift, and power it. this is only the first section of one leg of the tower. there will be four legs made up of five pieces each. this caltrans animation shows how to tack stack one on top of another, topping out at 525 feet above the bay.

san francisco police seeing what could be the beginning of a summer spike in street crimes including an

increase in armed robberies. there is some safety tips for police. >> this uptick usually happens every summer. but last weekend, there were more than two dozen incidents that, is a very high number, more larming is in most robberies, guns were used. >> it was a busy weekend for criminals and police. normally quiet fisherman's wharf were not spared and 27 incidents from friday to sunday. three friday. nine on saturday. and 15 on sunday. >> the city of san francisco averages about seven or eight robberies per day. >> assistant chief is looking at strategies to fight the summer spike in crime. >> just a mixture of public education plus making sure we deploy officers in those general areas. >> in all, 14 armed robberies
